2012 Hurricane Season Summary

The Atlantic hurricane season officially ends on November 30. The predictions called for an average 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. However, the season was rather active with nineteen (19) named storms - ten (10) of which developed into hurricanes. There were six (6) named storms above the predictions for this year. Tropical Storms Alberto and Beryl formed outside of the official start of the season on May 5 and 26, respectively. These were followed by seventeen (17) storms with Tony and devastating Sandy closing out the season on October 22.

Tropical Storms Ernesto, Isaac, Rafael and Tropical Depression Seven were the four systems to have impacted Dominica. These were predominantly rainfall events, with minimal impact from high winds and seas.
