THE FLOOD WARNING FOR DOMINICA WAS DOWNGRADED TO A FLOOD WATCH AT 8AM, MAY BE REINSTATED BY AFTERNOON

THE FLOOD WARNING FOR DOMINICA WAS DOWNGRADED TO A FLOOD WATCH AT 8AM, FRIDAY OCTOBER 2nd 2020.

Updated at 8:00a.m. Friday October 2nd, 2020.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS FLASH FLOODING IS POSSIBLE.

The Meteorological Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Dominica

* Until 6pm, Friday October 2nd, 2020

* Unstable conditions due to low level instability and the presence of an upper level trough continue to affect Dominica. Radar imagery continues to show light to moderate showers and thunderstorms continuing to affect sections of the island. The forecast is for shower and thunderstorm activity as well as gusty winds near showers to continue throughout the day. Flash flooding is therefore possible as soils are already saturated.

People in areas or communities that are prone to flooding, landslide and falling rocks should be vigilant and should take all precautionary measures to protect life and property.

This Watch may be upgraded to a Warning, should conditions become necessary, by afternoon.

POSSIBLE IMPACTS FOR DOMINICA

· Shallow rivers, streams, gutters and ravines may overflow their banks and flood surrounding areas. Roadways may also be flooded.

· Landslides due to intense rainfall as well as rock falls from overhanging cliff

· Loose objects may become missiles in gusty winds. Gusty winds may result in dangerous sea conditions, especially on the east coast.

Please note that a greater degree of cloudiness, more frequent rainfall and higher rainfall amounts are normally experienced across the east coast and interior of Dominica.

Residents should continue to monitor for updated information from The Dominica Meteorological Service as it becomes available.
