A TROUGH SYSTEM IS AFFECTING DOMINICA

Issued at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017

Moisture and instability associated with a trough system will continue to generate cloudiness, shower activity and isolated thunderstorms mainly across the northern and central portions of the island chain, including Dominica over the next 24 to 48 hours. Additionally, a westward moving tropical wave is expected to enhance instability across the area by late Thursday night into Friday.

Current model projected rainfall is in excess of 3 inches (76mm) with higher amounts in elevated areas.

As a result, persons in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks are advised to be vigilant and to continue to exercise extreme caution as flash flooding is possible during the period.

Moderate to rough seas are also expected in areas of showers and thunderstorms. All sea users and residents near the coast are therefore advised to take all the necessary precautions.

The public is advised to keep informed by paying attention to further updates provided by the Meteorological Service.
