World Meteorological Day 2012 Activities

March 23rd was designated as World Meteorological Day by the World Meteorological Organization and is observed by meteorological services across the globe annually. This year, the World Meteorological Organization celebrated 62 years of existence under the theme 'Powering our future with weather, climate and water'.

The Dominica Meteorological Service celebrated World Meteorological Day by presenting power-point presentations affiliated with weather and climate to Grade 5 and 6 students of various primary schools around the island. The students were educated about weather elements, hurricanes, weather instruments and how they work and the effects of weather on our daily lives. Tokens were given to students who responded correctly to questions asked. The schools visited were the Mahaut Primary School, St. Mary’s Primary, St. Martin Primary, Convent Preparatory School, Bense Primary, Paix Bouche Primary, Dos Dane Primary and Savanne Paille Primary School.

The Dominica Meteorological Service wishes to express its gratitude to all the pupils and teachers for their continued support and participation.
