2014 Atlantic Basin Tropical Cyclone Names

The World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) Thirty-Six (36th) Session of the Regional Association (RA) IV Hurricane Committee of which Dominica is a member, was held in Cancun, Mexico from April 7 to 10, 2014.

At that meeting, the name 'INGRID' was retired from the official list of Atlantic Basin tropical cyclone names due to the death and destruction it caused in Mexico in September 2013.The name will be replaced with "IMELDA" beginning in 2019.

Storm names are reused every six years for both the Atlantic and eastern North Pacific basins. Whenever a storm is so devastating that the future use of the name would be insensitive or confusing, the WMO hurricane committee may retire the name.

Additionally, in the eastern North Pacific, "MANUEL" will be replaced with "MARIO" also for its impacts on Mexico in September 2013.
