Seasonal Outlook: October - December 2015

2015 Drought Alert Map While the rains of the recent tropical storms wrought havoc to various parts of Dominica, it also brought relief to the exceptional drought conditions which were persisting in the agricultural communities.

The hurricane season is ongoing and there may be events which provide sufficient water for agricultural purpose. However, the conditions which promote drier weather still exist. The current El Nino is still being maintained and is expected to strengthen further. A normal to below-normal 2016 dry season is likely and water reserves may be low coming from the 2015 wet season. Below normal rainfall amounts have been recorded for the year thus far at the airports.

Normal to below normal rainfall total is predicted for the season Oct-Nov-Dec and a drought warning for the Dominica to the end of the year.

Citizens are asked, in spite of recent events, to continue to conserve water and protect resources. Conditions are being monitored and updates will be provided.
